Covid-19 has been infecting people across the globe. However, its spread has slowed down in most of the countries. Globally, as of 12:48 pm CEST on 23^rd August 2020, 23,057,288 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 800,906 deaths has been reported to WHO.

According to press release on 22^nd August by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research), India crosses 10+ Lakhs mark for testing of Covid-19 in 24 hours. India has conducted 10, 23, 836 sample testing for Covid-19 in last 24 hours. India has been testing an average of 8, 89,935 samples in last 5 days. 

India has tested 3, 44, 91,073 samples across the country till 21st August and has tested approximately 74.7 individuals per lakh population, much ahead of WHO ‘s guidelines of testing 14 people per Lakh population.

India currently has 3,044,940 total cases of Covid-19 as per data on 23^rd August 2020, 12:48 pm CEST by WHO.

India has a total number of 1511 laboratories specific for Covid-19 testing including 983 government labs and 528 private ones as per data on 21^st August 2020. 

ICMR has expanded various Laboratories for Covid-19 testing across India, even to the remotest part of the country.

“Ramping up of testing facility across India was at the core of increasing testing per day. Through our ardent efforts, it was ensured that a specific testing platform are made available addressing general testing (RT-PCR), High-throughput testing (COBAS), testing at remotest places and PHCs (TrueNAT, CBNAAT),in containment areas (rapid antigen testing) and for large number & migrant population testing (pooled sample testing),” ICMR’s Press release stated.
